Brief History
By the middle of the 20th century, the Gavinburn area of Old Kilpatrick had expanded residentially, and Dunbartonshire County Council decided to make use of the old infants' primary school that had become available, and convert it for use as a public library. The "new" Gavinburn Library was opened in October, 1956, beside Gavinburn Primary School. It was administered by the County Council until 1975, by Clydebank District Council from 1975 to 1996, and thereafter by West Dunbartonshire Council.
