A warm welcome to West Dunbartonshire Council’s Culture Section, which forms part of the Department of Educational Services.
The Culture Section brings together arts, heritage and museum services. The section promotes cultural activities, events and exhibition programmes for the whole community in locations across the authority.
Our museums programme aims to preserve and promote our local history through care of the museum collections, exhibitions, schools and community activities. Clydebank Museum hosts a series of exhibitions throughout the year reflecting the rich heritage of the area with accompanying education projects. The Backdoor Gallery within Dalmuir Library also displays exhibitions by local artists,community groups and National Touring Exhibitions.
In the last year our programme has included three major exhibitions: Singers- a history of the Singer factory in Clydebank, World War 2 and the History of Clydebank. During the same period the Backdoor Gallery has showcased work by local artists such as Burns Shearer, Linda Morrison, John Hayes and Josephine Torrance.Also displayed were works by community groups, Matchday - a touring football exhibition, Dave McKean - a Retrospective and the Art of the Etcher by William Strang. As always our 2010 Open Art Show was very popular with artists and visitors alike with artists both displaying and selling their works.
