Singer Reunion

On the 26 June 2005, Cultural Services, as part of the Their Past Your Future initiative, hosted a Singer Reunion to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the factory's closure at the end of June 1980.

Over 200 former employees attended - many more than was expected - and met up with old friends, looked at an exhibition of Singer photographs (courtesy of Clydebank Local Studies Department) and examined war-time munitions produced by the factory.

It was a fantastic opportunity to share memories and experiences of working in the factory: meeting future partners, attending the Singer galas and even being the Singer Queen! Many people remembered the visit of Dorothy Lamour who brought the glamour of Hollywood to Clydebank.

Cultural Services recorded many memories to add to the collection of Clydebank Museum so that future generations can appreciate the impact that Singer had on the lives of the people of Clydebank and the town itself.
