New Local History Publication

‘Life in the Victorian Era’

 

West Dunbartonshire Council is delighted to announce the launch of its of its new local history publication ‘Life in the Victorian Era’ (Clydebank, Dumbarton & the Vale of Leven). This fascinating publication provides a pictorial overview of life in West Dunbartonshire during the reign of Queen Victoria.

 

The book is packed with over 100 fascinating local photographs from the Victorian era, taken from the council’s Local Studies Collection and also many family images submitted by local members of the community. Including themes such as: Victorian Social Conditions,

Crime and Punishment, Trade and Empire, Victorian Leisure and Entertainment, and the Victorian Family; ‘Life in the Victorian Era’ provides an insight into the lives of local people during Victorian times, and the impact of the growth of industry on towns and villages across the authority.

 

‘Life in the Victorian Era’ is a partnership publication lead by the council’s Culture Section and involving; WDC Libraries Section, Friends of Clydebank Museum and community representatives. Funding for the book was provided by Awards for All Scotland, WDC Culture Section and Friends of Clydebank Museum.

 

‘Life in the Victorian Era’ (Clydebank, Dumbarton & the Vale of Leven) will go on sale to the public at branch libraries and Clydebank Museum on the 1st October at the price of £7.99.
