Brief History
To ease the pressure on Clydebank Library and meet the needs of residents to the north of the town, Parkhall Branch Library was opened in August 1946, initially in a room in Clydebank High School in Shelley Drive, then in the vacated Air Raid Precautions Service premises before a permanent home (pictured) was opened in 1962 at the corner of Hawthorn Street and Janetta Street. When Clydebank Town Council ceased to exist in 1975, the library was operated for Clydebank District Council until 1996, when responsibility passed to the new West Dunbartonshire Council.
