Clydesdale Harriers Books Launch at Clydebank Library

Clydebank Library recently hosted the launch of the first three books in a new series on the history and individuals of Clydesdale Harriers from its birth in 1885 up to the present day. The author of this series is long-time Harrier’s member, Brian McAusland, and Brian still has others waiting to go to print and yet more currently under consideration. The launch was attended by Harriers past and present, many of them notable athletes in their time. Here, a special mention should go to 92 year-old Jean McMillan (seated, holding book), who won the Scottish Women’s Cross Country Championship away back in 1936!

The titles currently available are:

  • 'Outstanding Clydesdale Harriers: a personal selection from Club Members between 1885 and 2005’
  • ‘Fifteen Clydesdale Harriers: a personal selection by Brian McAusland’
  • ‘Twelve Harriers from the 20s and 30s’

These are available priced £8 each from Clydebank Library (£24 per set of three), and can also be acquired by contacting Brian McAusland (01567 830331) or any committee member. Brian is particularly keen to produce a book about the women members of the club, and anyone with information he could use in this project should contact him on the above number. Any pictures that could be borrowed and copied would be especially welcome.

Finally, Brian would also be pleased to hear from anyone who knows the whereabouts of a copy of the club minute book for the years 1947-55, the only one missing from the Harriers’ long and illustrious history.
