Books

At Clydebank and Dumbarton Libraries there are large collections of books of local interest. They fall into two main categories: those that are about some aspect or aspects of our area; and those that are written by somebody who has a strong connection with our area, regardless of subject matter.

By "our area" is meant, in the first instance, the West Dunbartonshire Council local authority area. However, as the progression of history does not have much regard for the changes in local government boundaries, it will be found that our libraries have some books and other material relating to parts of what was once called Dunbartonshire even though they are not in the modern West Dunbartonshire.

Dunbartonshire itself had been formed from a large part of what was once called The Lennox, and there are some books in our collection about the Stirlingshire parts of The Lennox, and about The Lennox as a whole. There are even books on the Glasgow area and Scotland in general to provide a written context for our local book collections.
