October Celebrations

West Dunbartonshire Libraries have invested in a new Library Management System (LMS) and online catalogue, to bring our service up to date and provide you with the information you need, when you want it. To celebrate our new online catalogue, Library Online, and the launch of our new logo, we’re holding a series of events and promotions during October 2008.

Free replacement library cards.
To celebrate our new logo, we’ve had two brand new library cards produced which we’ll be providing FREE of charge to everyone who ‘trades in’ their old library card. You’ll have the choice of ‘Glossy Black’ or ‘Classic White’, both shown below, and each card also comes with a bookmark and handy key fob, just in case you forget to bring your library card on your next visit. Remember, that this offer is only available during October, to any teenage or adult member (aged 12 and over) who can provide their old card in exchange for a new one.

Free Library Online Workshops.
Launching a new library catalogue is great, but we need to show you how to use it! Come along to one of our 24 FREE workshops to see Library Online in action, and learn how to use it. Using Library Online you can search our entire catalogue, renew your items, reserve an item, and update your personal details. As we continue to develop Library Online, it will also grow into a useful information portal for West Dunbartonshire, housing our community information database, reader development information and much more. To view our timetable of FREE workshops, click here. All workshops are on a drop in basis, and require attendees to have their library card with them. Due to the nature of drop-in sessions, there may be a short wait until a space becomes available.

Win a Digital Camera or Apple iPod!
At the start of October we’ll launch our first ever loyalty card scheme, where you have the chance to win some excellent

prizes.  During the months of October and November, participants can receive a ‘stamp’ for every item they borrow – books,

CDs, DVDs, anything!  Once you’ve filled your card with ten stamps, fill in your contact details and post it into the

collection box in your library.  Every completed card is one entry into the prize draw.

Second and third places will receive and Apple iPod shuffle MP3 player. The more items you borrow, the more entries into the prize draw you can have. Entrants must have teenage or adult membership (aged 12 and over).

FREE Cotton Library Bags.
Everyone is making an effort to move away from plastic bags, and West Dunbartonshire Libraries are pleased to launch our high

quality cotton library bag. Working in partnership with West Dunbartonshire Waste Awareness, we’ll be giving away FREE cotton

library bags in all of our libraries at the start of October. There are only limited supplies however, so this offer is strictly available only while stocks last! To qualify for a free bag, you must be a teenage or adult library member. Don’t worry if you miss out however, as future deliveries of these bags are expected, which will be sold at £1 per bag.

Our First Ever Children’s Library Card.
Over the summer we ran a competition in schools and libraries across West Dunbartonshire for children to design our first ever children’s library card. October will see the ‘final’ of this competition where our three finalists will attend an event to find out who won the competition. The competition is being judged by the award winning illustrator, Catherine Rayner.

FREE Reservations for all.
Finally, we introduced this benefit a few months ago, but if you haven’t heard, it is now FREE to reserve any of our items for collection at your local library. Why not place your reservations from the comfort of your own home, using Library Online?
