Children - What's in it for you?

How to Join

Membership to the junior library is free and available to all from the earliest age to fourteen years old. A parent or guardian will have to to sign your application form before you can borrow anything. Staff will ask to see 2 forms of identification - one of which must show your parent's or guardian's current address.

Books

You can borrow up to ten books at a time. These can be borrowed for a four week period. Provided that there is no request for a book on loan, you may renew your loan by calling at the library or by telephoning (make sure you ask for permission first).

Talking Books

Talking books for all children's age groups are available from most libraries and may be borrowed for a four week period.

Videos and DVDs

Every library has its own junior video and DVD collection and may be borrowed on your library card.

The loan period is one week and only one item may be borrowed at a time.

An application to use the video and DVD section of the junior library must be signed by your parent or guardian.

Requests

If you can't find the book you are looking for ask a member of staff for help. If there is nothing suitable available, you can fill out a request postcard and the library staff will notify you when your book comes in.

Library Activities

Look out for theme parties and craft days during school holidays. You can also ask for colouring sheets and board games whenever you are in your library.

During term time, your school may also be invited to the library to take part in author visits and storytelling sessions.

Competitions

The library service runs a number of competitions open to all children in West Dunbartonshire:

Details of competitions will be available on the website and in all libraries.

The BOOKSTART BOOK CRAWL is a great way to introduce your baby or toddler to the library and it's FREE.

Ask in your local library for your collector card. Every time you visit the library to borrow books collect a sticker for your card. On your fourth visit claim your limited edition certificate. There are a total of four certificates designed by well known children's illustrators.
