Forward Planning and Regeneration

The Forward Planning and Regeneration Section is responsible for a number of areas of work. Click on the links below and left for further information.

Local Plans

The Forward Planning and Regeneration Section is responsible for preparing the Local Plan for West Dunbartonshire (excluding the area within Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park).  The West Dunbartonshire Local Plan was adopted on 3rd March 2010 and replaces the Clydebank Local Plan and the Dumbarton District, District Wide Local Plan.

A new statutory basis for development planning in Scotland commenced in February 2009 meaning a new Local Development Plan will be prepared for West Dunbartonshire.

Town Centre Regeneration

A key priority of West Dunbartonshire Council is to regenerate its town centres. Town centre action plans are in place to guide progress in Alexandria and Dumbarton and Clydebank rebuilt has been established to regenerate Clydebank, including its town centre.

Other Environmental Improvement Projects have also been undetaken or are ongoing, noteably along the the Forth and Clyde Canal.

Ranger Service

West Dunbartonshire Council Countryside Ranger Service promotes general access to the countryside and its interpretation, in particular to those parts of the region where visitor pressure is greatest.

It has a guided walks and talks program and co-ordinates the production of the Ranger Led Walks and Countryside Events Leaflet.

Countryside Access

Whether it's walking, running, cycling, horse riding or canoeing you enjoy, West Dunbartonshire provides many excellent opportunities for outdoor access. The West Dunbartonshire Access Officer works in conjunction with local land managers to ensure that opportunities are available for local communities and visitors to access the countryside.

The Council has prepared a Core Paths Plan which provides a basic framework of routes sufficient for the purpose of giving the public reasonable access throughout the area. The Countryside Access pages also include information on Land Reform, the Scottish Outside Access Code and Public Rights of Way.
