Countryside Access

Whether it's walking, running, cycling, horse riding or canoeing you enjoy, West Dunbartonshire provides many excellent opportunities for outdoor access. The West Dunbartonshire Access Officer works in conjunction with local land managers to ensure that opportunities are available for local communities and visitors to access the countryside.

The Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003 came into force in February 2005 and gives everyone a right of access to most land and inland water. However this right does come with responsibilities to both access takers and land managers. The Scottish Outdoor Access Code, which accompanies the Land Reform (Scotland) Act, provides details of responsible behaviour.

For further information on the Land Reform (Scotland) Act and the Scottish Outdoor Access Code see the links on this page.

Note that responsibilty for countrywide access within the Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park lies with the National Park Authority.
