The Council is currently preparing a new Local Development Plan for West Dunbartonshire. The Local Development Plan, like the existing Local Plan which it will supersede, will set out proposals for the future use of land in the area. This includes where the use of land is likely to change through development, and where change is less likely for environmental reasons. The Local Development Plan will also include policies for assessing planning applications received by the Council.
Main Issues Report
The first milestone and formal stage in the preparation of the new Local Development Plan has been reached with the publication in March 2012 of the Main Issues Report. The Main Issues Report is an early stage consultation document, and we want to gather as many views on it as we can.
The Main Issues Report focuses on where the current West Dunbartonshire Local Plan may need to change. It has been prepared after a lengthy period of consultation resulting in the identification of 30 separate Issues that we would welcome comments on. The Main Issues Report is accompanied by an Environmental Report, a Monitoring Statement and a number of Background Reports. Local Development Plan preparation timetable
The Council will publish an updated version of its Development Plan Scheme in June 2012. This document will set out the timetable for the preparation of the Local Development Plan.
Anticipated key dates in the preparation of the Plan are:
March 2012 – publication of Main Issues Report
March 2013 – publication of Proposed Plan
January 2014 – submission of Proposed Plan to Scottish Ministers
2014 – Examination and Adoption
