1.Overview
Category A commodities are goods or services that are standard or of a similar nature across the largely common requirements of users within the whole of the public sector in Scotland. This includes:
· 79 Central Government organisations collectively represented by Procurement Scotland
· 32 Local Authorities, 31 of which are collectively represented by Scotland Excel
· All NHS establishments collectively represented by NHS National Procurement for Scotland
· 62 Universities and Colleges collectively represented by APUC (Advanced Procurement for Universities and Colleges)
· All Police & Fire authorities

Scotland Excel
Information on Category B Contracts let by Scotland Excel
1.Overview
Category B commodities are goods or services that are standard or of a similar nature, which are common across the Local Authorities sector in Scotland.
Scotland Excel is a new Centre of Procurement Expertise for the Scottish Local Authority Sector which was launched on 1st April 2008, following recommendations from a government commissioned report to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of public sector procurement in Scotland. Scotland Excel is responsible for managing category B contracts on behalf of its member councils and associate members.
Local Authorities will benefit from increased collaboration through Scotland Excel. Not only will there be economies of scale and increased buying power through aggregation of demand, but also best practice can be shared , duplication of effort minimised and financial and other benefits maximised.

Local Authority Category C contracts
Information on Category C Contracts let by WDC
1.Overview
Category C commodities are goods or services that are of low value, or with little or no commonality with others Local Authorities. WDC will have to make its own arrangements to service these requirements. Although where possible will collaborate with other councils to allow for possible 'cluster' contracts to be put in place.
