The Alexandria Shopfront Improvement Project commenced in 2003. Its main aims were to develop an identity for Alexandria town centre and improve the appearance, viability and profile of local independent businesses. Four phases involving twenty seven businesses are now complete, and the project has made a tangible impact on the appearance of individual shops and on the overall Main Street area.
