This award winning project to transform the north bank of the canal in Clydebank town centre, between Kilbowie Road and Argyll Road, was undertake in 2007/2008. The large brick planters which created a barrier to the canal were removed and a more open and user-friendly space created which brought a new vibrancy to the town centre. People are enjoying the canal side setting and taking part in recreational activities along the canal. Connectivity with the shopping centre, car parks and adjacent uses has been improved. The works included new paving, street furniture, lighting, soft landscaping and the installation of a canal side boardwalk. Extensive community feedback on this project helped shape the design process. A team led by Ian White Associates designed the scheme.

The project's success has been recognised in being awarded the 2009 SURF Award in the Place category, a Green Apple Award, a Scottish Design Award and being one of the runners up in the 2009 BURA Waterways Renaissance Awards. It was also short-listed for a Town Centre Environmental Award.

As a result of this project the town centre environment has been dramatically improved. Further funding was secured in 2009/10 to extend the improvements to the South Canal Bank and Three Queens Square.
