The Vale of Leven Industrial Estate (VoLIE) is set within a mature wooded landscape, adjacent to the River Leven and north of Dumbarton. It is primarily occupied by a mix of light industrial uses and is identified as a Strategic Industrial and Business Location in the Local Development Plan.

The Council, Strathleven Regeneration Community Interest Company (CIC) and Scottish Enterprise have been working in partnership to attract inward investment to the Estate, improve the trading environment for businesses, enhance links to and from the surrounding communities and complement the adjoining Lomondgate development and Aggreko manufacturing facility.

A Business Improvement District for the Estate has been established with local businesses following the successful outcome of a ballot on 23 June 2014.

The Council has undertaken the following projects within the Estate:

  • Construction of 13 new industrial workshops which were opened in November 2015. This £1.8million project, which was jointly funded by the Council and the Scottish Government’s Regeneration Capital Grant, provides an opportunity for small and growing businesses to move into modern, purpose built accommodation. The workshops, ranging in size from 750 to 1500 square feet, have been constructed on an area of land within the industrial estate which was not previously developed. The project was delivered in conjunction with hub West Scotland, the Council’s development partner.
  • Purchase of sites to facilitate new development within the Estate;
  • Creation of a 2km woodland path on the banks of the River Leven in 2013, together with the production of a woodland survey and management plan, funded by the Council and the Central Scotland Green Network (CSGN).
  • The path improvements follow on from a £120,000 Council investment in an LED lighting network in the estate and improvements to the lighting on the nearby Renton Bridge, which is a key access point to the estate.
