Involving communities in the development of policies and services and in the relevant decisions is a key aim for public service providers.
The Guidance for Involving the Community is aimed at the Community Planning Partners which include West Dunbartonshire Council, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, Job Centre Plus, Scottish Enterprise Dunbartonshire, the Police, the Fire and Rescue Service, the Voluntary Sector, Clydebank College, Communities Scotland and the West Dunbartonshire Community.
At a launch in December 2006, community planning partners signed up to the principles of good practice for working with the community and endorsed the guidance which helps achieve this.
The principles on which the Guidance is based are relevant to all organisations and groups that involve people.
The Guidance has been developed by community representatives, and workers from West Dunbartonshire Council, West Dunbartonshire Community Planning and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
The Guidance is intended to work alongside the National Standards for Community Engagement, which had been developed by Scottish Community Development Centre, commissioned by the Scottish Executive.
The local Guidance contains advice and guidance on how best to consult and involve people in decision making. The Guidance also contains practical advice and information on accessible local venues, providing information in suitable alternative formats and much more.
