Protecting Adults at Risk of Harm in West Dunbartonshire

Adult Support & Protection

 There is now a law in Scotland that helps us to protect adults who may be at risk. The Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007 was introduced.

 

 

  • to provide ways of helping adults who find it difficult to protect themselves and are at risk of harm.

 

 

     and

 

 

  • to set up an Adult Protection Committee to oversee and support this work

Who are adults at risk of harm?

 

 

Adults who are covered by the Act are people who are 16 or over and who

 

 

  • find it difficult to keep themselves or their property safe

 

  • may be at risk of harm from someone else or harm from themselves

 

  • ar more at risk of harm than other people because they have a disability or illness or other condition

 

 

What to do if you are worried about someone who may be at risk of harm:

 

It is everyone's business to help protect adults who may be at risk. If you know someone who you believe is being harmed please tell us so that we can help them to protect themselves.

 

If you believe that someone is in urgent need of help to keep them safe please contact the police on 999.
