RAISE AWARENESS OF CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE

Purple Ribbon

During September it is the month of Action to raise awareness of Child Sexual Abuse

In September 1993 the first march was organised by 'CROSS' (Campaign for the Rights of Survivors of Sexual Abuse), to raise awareness of child sexual abuse (CSA).  The purple ribbon symbolises hope for survivors of childhood sexual abuse.  Since the early 1990's activists have campaigned to have September named as the 'Month of Action to Raise Awareness of CSA' with events designed to acknowledge the harm and suffering of victims of child sexual abuse, increase public knowledge, challenge myths, remove stigma and improve services for those affected by CSA.

By choosing to wear a purple ribbon you will be actively participating in raising awareness of child sexual abuse and the devastating effects CSA has on individuals, families and communities.

Purple ribbons will be available at selected council offices throughout West Dunbartonshire, during September.
