Domestic Abuse and Gender-Based Violence

Prevention Work in West Dunbartonshire

The Reduce Abuse Project is part of West Dunbartonshire Violence Against Women Partnership. The Project carries out prevention work to increase opportunities for children and young people to have healthy relationships in their lives. There are two workers and a range of partners who do this work in schools and youth projects.

Statistic show that domestic abuse happens mostly to women (82% of incidents reported to the police in Scotland are perpetrated by men on women – Scottish Govt), so the work carried out by the Reduce Abuse Project encourages discussion about gender stereotypes, influences on young people from the media and the negative effects of these influences on young people’s relationships.

The project also develops and delivers sessions with primary school aged children, and young people in a range of settings.  Tailored training is available for multi agency staff on issues related to gender based violence including: Domestic abuse and its impact on children and young people, sexual bullying, challenging homophobia with young people and teenage relationship abuse.

If you are interested in training for staff or sessions with children or young people please contact:
