Valuation Banding and Appeals

Valuation Banding

Your home will fall within a valuation band between 'A' and 'H' determined by the Assessor based on property values as at 1 April 1991.
The amount of tax you pay is related to your valuation band, i.e. higher banded properties attract the higher liability.

Valuation Band Property Value

A - Up to £27,000
B - £27,000 to £35,000
C - £35,000 to £45,000
D - £45,000 to £58,000
E - £58,000 to £80,000
F - £80,000 to £106,000
G - £106,000 to £212,000
H - Over £212,000

Separate water and sewerage charges are set by Scottish Water.

Valuation Appeals

You may have the right of appeal against your council tax Banding or Rateable Value. Such appeals are currently only possible in limited circumstances. Advice on whether or not you have such a right can be obtained from the Assessor at:

Dunbartonshire & Argyll & Bute Valuation Joint Board
235 Dumbarton Road,
Clydebank,
G81 4XJ

Tel: 0141-562 1200
Fax: 0141-562-1255

You may also appeal if you are aggrieved at the actions of the Council in calculating or collecting your council tax. This should be discussed in the first instance with staff at your local Council Tax office.

Payment should not be delayed pending the outcome of any appeal or enquiry.
