Postal And Proxy Voting

Postal Votes

Anyone can choose to vote by post. You don’t need a medical certificate or a letter from your employer.

It’s your choice. Contact the Electoral Registration Office to apply for a postal vote. You can choose to

vote by post at this election only, or for all elections.

You can even have your ballot paper sent to your holiday address. If you want to vote by post at the

European Parliament Elections, you have to submit your application by 5pm on Tuesday 19 May.

Proxy Votes

If you can’t get to the polling station and a postal vote isn’t practical, it may be possible to get a proxy vote. This means that you nominate another person to cast your vote on your behalf. Your proxy can vote in person or by post.

If you think you need a proxy vote, contact the Electoral Registration Office at the above address. If you need a postal proxy, you have to apply by 5pm on 19 May 2009, but for other proxy votes the deadline is 5pm on Wednesday 27 May 2009.

Emergency situations – If you become ill unexpectedly after Wednesday 27 May and are unable to vote, you can apply to the Electoral Registration Office for an emergency proxy up until 5pm on polling day - 4 June.
