Council repairing potholes after severe weather

West Dunbartonshire Council is making its roads as safe as possible by dedicating teams to repair the numerous potholes created by the recent severe weather conditions.

As well as responding to reports of potholes from residents, West Dunbartonshire has specialist Find and Fix teams which drive round the area and actually fix or make safe the damage whenever they see it.

The problem is particularly urgent at this time, as recent extreme bad weather and flooding has left many roads damaged. With calmer weather anticipated for much of January the teams are now able to prioritise pothole repairs across West Dunbartonshire to ensure the road network is in good order.

So long as the better weather lasts the teams will be out inspecting roads in the area to identify problems and carry out repairs as quickly as possible. Residents can also report potholes through a dedicated national reporting website, www.fillthathole.org.uk  which sends updates to the Council, or by contacting the Council directly on 01389 608152, or out of hours Roads and Lighting Faults on 0800 373 635.

Councillor Jim McElhill, spokesperson for Environmental and Economic Development said: “This winter has seen some of the worst weather in memory, with flooding and storms causing major damage to our roads.  Our roads operatives have done a great job minimising the disruption to road users during these extreme conditions and now that the weather has finally calmed down our repair teams will be out in force identifying and repairing potholes. If any resident knows of a pothole that needs fixed, let the Council know and our teams will tackle them.

He added: “Due to the weather being so bad recently, there are a lot of repairs to be done - so bear with us and rest assured that the problem will be sorted as soon as possible.”
