Clydebank pupils win national Christmas competition

22nd December 2010

Pupils from St Stephen’s Primary in Clydebank have come out on top in a national competition to design an interactive online Christmas card for Road Safety Scotland.

Junior Road Safety Officers (JRSOs) from schools all over Scotland were invited to design an online Christmas ‘card’ that puts across a good road safety message. The winning design by Eve Niven, Kieran McGoldrick, Caris Murphy and Josh Smith from St Stephen’s Primary was chosen from over 80 entries.

The pupils’ design will be used by Road Safety Scotland for their online Christmas card that will be emailed out to road safety organisations and many other partners throughout the UK and beyond. The school also received a prize of £250.

West Dunbartonshire Council’s Convener of Housing, Environmental and Economic Development, Councillor William Hendrie explained:

The winning pupils from St Stephen's Primary

“The competition was looking for a short animation or storyboard with a Christmas road safety theme – it could be either funny or serious, as long as it was creative and innovative. I absolutely love the animation by the St Stephen’s pupils, it really gets across the very important message about road safety while managing to make me laugh at the same time, and to beat schools from all across Scotland is a fantastic achievement. We have some very talented pupils at St Stephen’s Primary!

“I’d also like to say well done to pupils at Kilbowie Primary and Carleith Primary who also entered the competition.”
