Start your celebrations early with "Hogmanay During the Day"!

23rd December 2009

There will be double the fun on Hogmanay this year as West Dunbartonshire Council’s FREE event - “Hogmanay during the Day” – is set to kick off the New Year celebrations in style in both Clydebank and Balloch.

Last year was the first year of the event, which took place at Moss O’Balloch. It was such a success that it has been extended to include an event at 3 Queens Square in Clydebank this year. Both the Clydebank and Moss O’Balloch events will feature the best of Scottish musical entertainment from 1pm to 4.30pm on Thursday, 31 December.

Performers at Clydebank include funky pipe and drums act, Celtic Spirit, dynamic 5-piece band the Raggle Taggle Gypsies, one of Scotland's best known and most popular ceilidh bands, Ceilidh Minogue, and Scottish duo The Vital Sparks.

Celtic Spirit

Celtic Spirit will also play the Balloch event, and will be joined by fabulous Scottish duo Mark Neal and Eilidh Steel, and highly talented local piper Kyle Warren, who is a finalist in BBC Radio Scotland’s Young Traditional Musician of the Year 2010. Alexandria schoolgirl Rachael Skelding, who made it through to the UK finals of the Open Mic talent contest, will also take to the stage.

There will also be children’s entertainment, a funfair and food stalls to keep all the family happy. Your Radio will also be keeping everyone entertained throughout the day.

Provost Denis Agnew said:  "These are fantastic free family and community events and I hope people from all over West Dunbartonshire will come out and enjoy themselves. Hogmanay in Scotland is a great festive time, steeped in many customs and traditions,so why not start the fun early and come to one of these afternoon events? They are guaranteed to get you in the mood for the Bells! There’s no need to get a ticket, just come along on the day."
