DAE YE KEN?

17th February 2010

Talented, entrepreneurial Dumbarton Academy 6th year pupils have just formed their own company – the “Super Amazing Ginger Company”, and have just began promoting the launch of their innovative new board game.   “Dae Ye Ken?”

The dedicated group of 6th year pupils from Dumbarton Academy are keen to stress that the board game has been designed to be fun as well as educational and is aimed at school children between the ages of 11 and 16.  The game provides them with an opportunity to broaden their knowledge of Scottish geography, history, culture and heritage, either individually or as a team.

A typical questions from  the game would be,  “What is Scotland’s top visitor attraction?”

The group has worked hard to raise money to produce the game, by arranging bake sales and discos and it looks like their work has been worth it. “We are really pleased with the interest we have had so far and have sold even more than we thought we would’’, said Andrew Grindlay, one of the enterprising teenagers.

Headteacher Graham Hutton says, “This is part of a project for Young Enterprise Scotland and after passing the first stage they are hopeful to go all the way through the regional stages and fingers crossed up to the national stage of the competition.”

The ‘Dae Ye Ken CD Standard Grade CD Question Pack’is used in conjunction with the ‘Dae Ye Ken’ board game and is an ideal way to study for exams, combining fun with learning. The students made up all the questions themselves after being through the Standard Grade exams already and think most students would agree it is a more exciting way to study.

A number of the students would now like to study business at college or university, as creating the game has given them a useful insight into how to manage a business.

Dumbarton Academy entrepreneurs are selling the board game, a cd-rom, mugs and jam jars.  The board game and dvd can also be bought online at www.daeyeken.com.

Teachers Alan Rodgers and Carol Cook proudly state, “Now we have sold just about 50 board Games, The students have just broken even with their venture. We hope sales are set to continue on an upward trend. The Game is fun and educational. We are confident that it will continue to sell and has a super chance at succeeding all the way through the competition. The Game is very clever and has extremely high production values.”
