LEPRA Health in Action Charity representative Marion Barr was overwhelmed by the generosity of the kind hearted and committed schoolchildren from St Peter’s Primary in Bellsmyre, Dumbarton when she visited the 141 primary pupils for an extra special assembly were the kind kids presented Marion with a cheque for £1,343.42!

“I am absolutely gobsmacked by this!” said Marion, “St Peter’ Primary School kids must be the most generous bunch I have ever met! I have been blown away with their generosity and how they have taken LEPRA’s cause to their hearts!”

LEPRA Health in Action Charity has historically been on the front line of the battle against the spread of leprosy. Their expertise gained in the prevention and treatment of the disease has enabled them to broaden their scope to successfully tackle a range of diseases across the developing world.

The world’s poorest people are always the most vulnerable to disease. Malnutrition and poor living conditions increase the risk of infection and infectious diseases.

Marion Barr explained, “LEPRA famously work all over the world. In Latin America we are working in Guatemala, Colombia and Brazil. In Asia we run a large number of projects in India, alongside crucial work in Nepal and Bangladesh. In Africa we are active in Malawi and Mozambique. We also support fighting leprosy in Madagascar.”

Headteacher Harry Malvena says, “Our kids really took this cause to their hearts and we are hugely grateful to the kids and parents for their incredible contribution that will positively affect the lives of so many. I am not surprised in the least by their generous contributions, but I am very proud.”
