Dumbarton Library And Dumbarton Football Club Get Revved Up For Sir Jackie Stewart Visit

24th February 2010

West Dunbartonshire Council are absolutely delighted to announce Sir Jackie Stewart will be officially opening the new Children’s Library in Dumbarton Library on the 3rd of March, 2010 as part of Dumbarton Library’s Centenary celebrations.

Sir Jackie says, “The single most important element of Scotland's future is that its children have reading and writing skills beyond what is currently the standard.  The opening of the new Children’s Library to attract more children to reading is a very positive move in the right direction by the leadership within the authority of West Dunbartonshire Council."

West Dunbartonshire Council’s Education and Lifelong Learning team are also proud to present An Audience with Sir Jackie Stewart chaired by leading Scottish sports journalist Neil Drysdale at Dumbarton FC. This will take place at Dumbarton Football Club on the same day at 7.30 pm.

On the subject of ‘An Audience with Sir Jackie Stewart’ event at Dumbarton Football Club, Sir Jackie said, "I am very much looking forward to my "An Audience with Jackie Stewart" event in my home town.  I spent most of my first 28 years living and working by the family garage, surrounded by Dumbartonians.  I hope those who attend will enjoy it as much as I am anticipating it."

Sports Journalist Neil Drysdale said, "I have interviewed Sir Jackie Stewart on many occasions during the last 20 years and he is one of the most fascinating sportsmen that Scotland has ever produced. Even at 70, he still works so hard that looking at his schedule can induce fatigue. And he has achieved so much, both on and off the track, that it will be fascinating to be in his company at Dumbarton FC."

Convenor for Education, Councillor May Smillie, “I am personally thrilled that Sir Jackie, our proud son of the rock, former three times Formula One World Champion will be discussing his life, his career and undoubtedly giving his ever forthright views on the current state of his beloved sport.”
