Top of the class for Kilbowie!

Friday 22nd January 2010

Kilbowie Primary School has just been awarded four ‘very good’ and ‘one good’ evaluations in a report published on 10 November 2009 by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education (HMIE).

Strong leadership for improvement and strong teamwork and positive attitudes of all staff are among the main messages in the report.

All the pupils in Kilbowie are described as enthusiastic with a strong motivation to learn and a real pride in their school. The school receives strong praise for its work with children who require additional support in their learning.

Education Convenor, May Smillie pointed out, “At a time when we hear so much negative comment on young people’s lack of physical exercise the school is praised for the quality of children’s learning in physical education.”

May added, “If I remember correctly, Kilbowie Primary School  was recently awarded the highly prestigious International School Award in recognition of bringing the wider world into the schoolroom by The British Council. This HMIE Report is further  recognition for a school of Kilbowie Primary’s continuing success.”

Executive Director, Terry Lanagan, explains, “Inspectors finished their duties at an early stage in the inspection week because they were reassured by the school’s evaluations of its own work. The report is a powerful endorsement of the high quality of education provided in Kilbowie Primary School.”

The council will provide a further report on the areas for improvement for parents in two years’ time.

Headteacher Aileen Rice said “I am very pleased with the report and delighted that the inspectors have praised the hard work of all staff, pupils and parents. I am very proud of my team, greatly supported by our parents, carers and friends within the whole community.  I want all of our community to know how much I value and appreciate their ongoing support and encouragement.”
