Dunbartonshire Disability Sports Club Launch

24th March 2010

Dunbartonshire Disability Sports Club just launched on Saturday, was a great success with over 35 children with various disabilities turning up to St Peter, the Apostle High School in Clydebank. The sporting activities ran from 10.00am until 12noon, with football, basketball, boccia and archery taking place.

Executive Director for Education, Terry Lanagan, said, “It’s a great testament to the Committee Members and all their hard work that the event proved to be a huge hit with children, parents and carers alike. I am confident that this is the start of a major development of sporting opportunities for young people in West Dunbartonshire.”

Maurice Donohue, I know it is still very early to gauge, but with all the positive

comments and feedback that we received on Saturday, it has shown that there is adefinite need for this type of sporting arena for all children affected with some type of disability within the local authority. I am sure the number of children participating will increase and in the long term have the creation of a sporting pathway into adulthood will become more prevalent. I am delighted that Active Schools have had the opportunity to support the development of the Club along with Sports Development.

All the kid’s attending were very impressed with Shawn Lawrence. Shawn is a member of the West Dunbartonshire Amateur Swimming Cub, West of Scotland Team and Scotland Squad.
