During this course the group began to write short stories and poems about their experiences and about what mattered to them. This helped the group to gain a more positive outlook on life, develop their literacies skills and improve their health and well being.
The women’s work was then put together into a short booklet of poems and short stories which was sold throughout West Dunbartonshire. When one of the group recently had to have treatment for cancer and having benefited greatly from the treatments and services offered by the Maggie’s Centre, the Women of Worth had no difficulty deciding to put the all the profits from the sale of the books much to the delight of the staff at the Centre.
Jen Meenan, the Community Fundraiser for the Maggie’s Centre said “This generous donation of £150 will pay for one of their nutrition courses for a month!”
Kind hearted, Community Learning and Development Literacies Worker, Angela Doyle, said, “We are really proud of this, it’s an achievement to develop the skills, to publish a book and also raise money for charity. Women of Worth indeed The Group would like to thank very much all those who bought one of their books and offered their support.
