Council Teams In Running For National Awards

26th November 2009

Two West Dunbartonshire Council teams are waiting with bated breath to find out whether they have scooped a prestigious national award from the Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE).

The Council’s Housing Repairs and Maintenance team is a finalist in the “Best Performer in Building Maintenance” category, while the Grounds Maintenance Team has been shortlisted in the “Most Improved Performer in Parks, Open Places and Horticultural Services” category.  Both teams are up against six other finalists.

The APSE Performance Networks Awards 2009 celebrate the best performers in local government front line services from all across the UK. The winners will be announced at a ceremony on Thursday 3rd December at the Hilton Hotel in Blackpool, hosted by Strictly Come Dancing’s Flavia Cacace.

Councillor William Hendrie, West Dunbartonshire Council’s Convener for Housing, Environmental Services and Economic Development, was delighted to hear that two Council teams had reached the finals. He said:

“There are a lot of hardworking front line teams within West Dunbartonshire Council that deserve recognition, and these two teams are perfect examples.  Too often, local authority front line services are only talked about when something goes wrong, and people forget that the Council has so many dedicated employees who are working tirelessly to deliver better public services.I have my fingers crossed for a double win next week. ”
