Tuesday 7th September 2010

West Dunbartonshire Council’s Education Convener and Executive Director for Educational Services paid a visit to the area’s two newest primary schools yesterday, to see first-hand the benefits that the new state-of-the-art buildings will bring to pupils and teachers alike.

The new schools - Goldenhill Primary School in Clydebank, and Bonhill Primary School in Bonhill - opened their doors to pupils at the start of the new school term in August. They feature a host of modern facilities such as interactive white boards and a new multi-purpose sports pitch.

Terry Lanagan, Executive Director for Educational Services was full of praise for the new buildings.  He said: “I am absolutely thrilled to see our two superb new primary school

buildings – Goldenhill and Bonhill - up and running. The schools have been finished to extremely high standards and will allow staff to deliver learning and teaching of the highest possible quality. In my visits to the schools I was impressed by how enthusiastic and excited both staff and pupils were about their new schools.

“These are the types of facilities which our young people deserve and it is wonderful to see all the hard work of so many people come to fruition in such impressive buildings which will serve their communities for many years to come.”

Councillor Jonathan McColl, the Council’s convener for education added: "I am very impressed with the quality of the schools. There is so much open space and the equipment and facilities are fantastic. Most importantly, the children have settled in and absolutely love their new schools."
