The Council’s procurement officers will share the details of companies who are offering to take on contracts offered by them to police. The police shall then assist and identify any companies which are linked to money laundering and serious and organised crime. This shall ensure no contracts are awarded to any company or person responsible for or benefiting from serious and organised crime.
The Council’s procurement officers will then receive information from the police about any firms used by money launderers and run by or associated with criminals, to ensure no contracts are awarded to any company or person responsible for or benefiting from serious and organised crime.
Chief Executive, David McMillan said: “I am delighted to give the go-ahead to this protocol to further strengthen the already excellent relationship we enjoy with Strathclyde Police and to help us actively fight organised crime and protect the public purse by being informed by the police of anyone placing a contract tender who has been involved in criminal activity.”
Assistant Chief Constable George Hamilton said: “I am delighted that West Dunbartonshire Council is the sixth council within the Force area to sign an Information Sharing Protocol with Strathclyde Police in as many months. We are determined to ensure that contracts awarded from West Dunbartonshire Council go to the hard-working, honest citizens running their legitimate businesses. The signing of this protocol ensures that the message goes out to serious and organised criminals to be aware and that they will once again have fewer places to turn.”
