Glasgow 2014 Youth Ambassadors - 14-22

12th April 2010

Young Scot, in partnership with the Scottish Government and Scotland’s 32 local authorities, has just launched its Youth Legacy Ambassador Programme which aims to develop 4 young people between the ages of 14 – 22 to get all of their peers and the community involved with the XXth Commonwealth Games, Glasgow 2014.

The Youth Legacy Ambassador Programme has been developed following a successful consultation by Young Scot in 2008, which sought the views of over 1,500 young people and investigated young people’s aspirations for the legacy of the 2014 Commonwealth Games.  Over the recent months we have been working with YouthLink Scotland, Youth Scotland, the Scottish Youth Parliament and the Youth Sport Trust in Scotland to help inform the Youth Legacy Ambassador Programme.

Convenor for Education, May Smillie explains:

“Young Scot is looking for 4 young people from West Dunbartonshire to participate in the programme and help promote the key themes of an active, sustainable, connected and flourishing Scotland to their communities.  Young people who care passionately about sport, health, the environment, culture, business and showcasing Scotland as a great place to live, can help make a real difference to Scotland’s future.

“Young people can download an application pack from www.youngscot.org/youthlegacy or they can contact the free Young Scot Infoline on 0808 801 0338 – closing date for applications is 23rd April 2010. “

Once the Youth Legacy Ambassadors are in post, we will ensure Legacy Leads and local partners have the opportunity to meet their local Ambassadors and to work together to ensure everyone gets the most out of Scotland hosting the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Gill Graham , Head of Culture says:  "This exciting opportunity will help Scotland and for West Dunbartonshire to take advantage of its role as the host nation by building a legacy for the future."

Youth Legacy Ambassadors will develop their own campaign to promote the Legacy themes and be as creative and imaginative as they like.

All 4 Youth Legacy Ambassadors will also work towards a Youth Achievement Award so their hard work, time and commitment will be formally recognised.
