Have your say on the BIG 5!

Monday 12th April 2010

The BIG 5 event is the chance for Council tenants and residents across West Dunbartonshire to tell the Council their views on the Housing Service and its five specific areas.

Where is it?  Centre 81 at 2/16 Braes Avenue, Whitecrook, Clydebank G81 1ND

When is it?  Wednesday 21st April 2010 at 9:30am – 2:30pm

Five areas of the housing service - Allocations, Estate Management & Caretaking, Homelessness Anti Social Behaviour, and Repairs and Maintenance - will be covered in five workshops.  Everyone who attends the event will be invited to attend three out of the five workshops.

West Dunbartonshire’s Housing Convenor, Councillor William Hendrie is keen to encourage tenants and residents to take part. He said: “The Housing Service ran the Big 5 event last year and the feedback was that tenants wanted to do it all again! This year we have worked closely with the West Dunbartonshire Tenants and Residents Organisation to develop the event.

“The Big 5 event is a great opportunity to contribute to the future of your neighbourhood and to let the Housing Service know if you have any thoughts or concerns, or ideas how things could be improved. So come along and bring a friend or neighbour.”

The five workshops will explore:

1.       Estate Management and Caretaking Services

This workshop will discuss the work of the caretaker and how this interacts with the work of the local housing officer in each area.  It will also cover the various types of caretakers employed by the Council and what each caretaker is responsible for.  This workshop will allow you to discuss any ideas you have for the future of the service and also any concerns you might have.

2.       Homelessness

This workshop will look at the new tenancy sustainment strategy being implemented in West Dunbartonshire.  This strategy looks at what helps people to stay in their homes.  Making sure that people stay in their homes will in the long term help prevent homelessness.  We want to know what you think are the most important points to be included in the strategy.

3.       Repairs

This workshop will focus on planned repairs and maintenance work to our houses.  We will also ask you about the quality of the work carried out, the Council’s response rate and about maintenance officer inspections.

4.       Anti-social behaviour

This workshop will focus on the way in which the Council deals with anti-social behaviour in particular prevention and noise enforcement.

5.       Allocations

This workshop will give you the opportunity to gather information about the implementation of our new allocations policy which came into force earlier this month. It will also give you the opportunity to obtain information about the West Dunbartonshire Common Housing Register which aims to simplify access to social housing across the local authority.

The venue is fully accessible and refreshments and a lunch will be provided. Please call Roisin Black on 01389 608903 to book your place and to let us know if you have any local transport, support, dietary or childcare requirements.
