Macmillan Volunteer Service seeks new recruits

Friday 24th September 2010

Have you got some spare time on your hands? If so, why not consider volunteering for West Dunbartonshire Council’s Macmillan Volunteer Service?

Cancer can affect people in many different ways, and the aim of the Service is to provide support to anyone affected by cancer. Volunteers will provide invaluable emotional, social and practical support tailored to the needs of people affected by cancer.

Volunteers will receive a full induction and ongoing training as required. They will be given the opportunity to help people affected by cancer in a number of ways, including:

  • Befriending

  • Accompanying people to appointments

  • Undertaking social activities

  • Dealing with correspondence

  • Helping with form filling

  • Assisting people with their shopping

Volunteer Information days will be held throughout West Dunbartonshire in October to recruit suitable people to undertake this important role. The dates and venues for these are as follows:

Tuesday 5th October, 2pm - 8pm, The Lesser Town Hall, Clydebank

Wednesday 6th October, 10am – 2pm, Clydebank College

Thursday 7th October, 2pm – 8pm, Social Work Offices (Modular Building), Bridge Street, Dumbarton
