The distinctive blue heritage plaques have been placed on all historic buildings that form part of the Dumbarton Heritage Trail, a circular walk around the town centre that highlights features of history, architecture and industry. Finger-post signs will soon be installed to direct pedestrians around the Trail, as well as to various town centre facilities. Interpretation boards will also soon appear at the quayside with information on local attractions. Work is almost complete on providing new lighting on Dumbarton Bridge.
Councillor William Hendrie, the Council’s Convener for Housing, Environmental Services and Economic Development said: “Local people may have noticed the heritage plaques appearing around Dumbarton town centre recently, and will soon notice the finger-post signs appearing too. This project is just one of many planned improvements to Dumbarton Town Centre that have been made possible thanks to TCRF funding.
“The town has so many architecturally interesting and historically important buildings, such as the A-listed St Augustine’s Church, the Municipal Buildings and the Sheriff Court House. The new plaques and signs will enhance the Dumbarton Heritage Trail, making it easier for visitors to locate and identify the buildings on the Trail.”
