The Queen to visit West Dunbartonshire for Diamond Jubilee celebrations

Her Majesty The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will visit West Dunbartonshire this summer as she tours the UK to mark her Diamond Jubilee.

The visit is intended to give Her Majesty the opportunity to express her thanks to people of this area for their continued support and loyalty.

It is a great honour for West Dunbartonshire to host The Queen with Edinburgh, Glasgow, Renfrewshire and Perth the only other stops on her tour of Scotland during the week of 2-6 July.

The exact details of her visit are not being released at this stage, and it is still not known if she will be travelling to the area using her car, the Royal Train or the ship Leander.

In an official statement by The Queen issued this week she said: “I hope that this Jubilee year will be a time to give thanks for the great advances that have been made since 1952 and to look forward to the future with clear head and warm heart as we join together in our celebrations. “

Provost Denis Agnew, who has been heavily involved in the planning of The Queen’s historic visit to West Dunbartonshire, said: “This really is great news for the area and I am so delighted that the residents of West Dunbartonshire will be able to take part in what promises to be a brilliant occasion to mark The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

“For West Dunbartonshire to have been selected as one of the five areas in Scotland to receive a visit from Her Majesty and the Duke of Edinburgh is absolutely fantastic. I have no doubt that the people of Clydebank, Dumbarton, the Vale and everywhere else in the authority will be out in force to show their appreciation for a great monarch in this special year.”

Further details of her visit to West Dunbartonshire will be released closer to the time.
