Council launches budget consultations - access on-line questionnaire

West Dunbartonshire Council will hold a series of public meetings to give members of the public the opportunity to review the Council’s budget proposals and suggest savings options.

These public meetings follow on from public consultation meetings in November, hosted by the West Dunbartonshire Community Forums.  The feedback from these has been taken into account, along with feedback from earlier staff consultation, in developing the current budget proposals.

A range of budget proposals were presented to Councillors by the Administration at a Special Meeting on Thursday, 15 December. These included protecting the Council from further cuts and spending an extra £3.9 million on creating 500 new jobs, undertaking road improvements, raising attainment in schools and carrying out much needed flood prevention works.

As always the views of residents will be closely listened to so the public are encouraged to attend one of the following meetings:

  • Clydebank High School, Monday 16th January, 2012, 7pm to 9pm

  • Vale of Leven Academy, Tuesday 17th January, 2012, 7pm to 9pm

  • Dumbarton Burgh Hall, Wednesday 18th January, 2012, 7pm to 9pm

At these meetings residents will be able to review the budget proposals and make their own suggestions. Every proposal received will be considered on its merits.  The final decision on which options will be selected will be decided at the full Council meeting on January 26, 2012.

Councillor Craig McLaughlin, Convener of Corporate Services, said: "With careful budgetary control, we have proven that planning and making the right financial decisions over a number of years can reap dividends, and I am delighted with the position we are now in.  I am proud of this proposed budget and believe it would make a huge difference to the lives of local people.

“However, we can always make improvements and I would encourage members of the public to come along to one of the consultations to air their views  and share any budget suggestions they may have. ”
