A cheery snowman scene drawn by an Old Kilpatrick youngster has been chosen as the winning entry in the Provost’s Christmas Card Competition for 2017.

Gavinburn Primary School P7 pupil Jason Howie’s design will appear on Provost William Hendrie’s Christmas cards, to be sent to 300 individuals and organisations across West Dunbartonshire and beyond.

Every year the Provost selects one school from West Dunbartonshire to take part in the Christmas Card Competition and this year it was the turn of Gavinburn Primary in Old Kilpatrick.

P1 pupil Lilly-Mai Leggat won second place and third place went to P3/4 boy Harris Holloway. All three of their names will be displayed on the winning Christmas Card in recognition of their efforts.

Jason received a framed copy of his design along with a gift voucher for £25 and a snowman Christmas tree decoration engraved with his name.  Lilly-Mai and Harris were awarded a £20 gift voucher and an engraved snowman Christmas tree decoration.

Provost Hendrie said: “It was a very difficult task to pick a winner and two runners-up from all of the wonderful entries that we received. It’s definitely the case that nobody can capture the Christmas spirit quite like a child. Jason’s design stood out for me and I am proud to be sending it out as my official Christmas Card for 2017. Congratulations to the three pupils and the school teachers at Gavinburn for nurturing such creative young minds.”
