The countdown to Christmas will officially start when the Christmas lights are switched on in Alexandria and Dumbarton.

The fun starts in Alexandria when the festive lights will be switched on at 5pm on Saturday 25 November in Main Street and at Dumbarton High Street at 5pm on Sunday, 26 November.

Each event will feature a children’s funfair, balloon modelling, Disney characters, and giveaways, while Your Radio’s Gary Marshall will be keeping the crowds entertained as MC.

In addition to the main lights switch on, each light spectacular will showcase a host of musical talent including singer-songwriters Ally McNeil and Jodie Knight. And talented children from Alexandria’s music school Singer Station, various local dance schools and some local primary schools will also be performing at the events.

Councillor Jim Finn, Chair of West Dunbartonshire Leisure who are organising the events on behalf of West Dunbartonshire Council, said: “Christmas is a very special time of year and I am delighted we are kicking off the festive season with these fantastic events. Both events will be a fantastic fun day out for families who will be treated to a varied line up of local talent in the build up to the lights being switched on. Along with the great acts, Your Radio will be playing all the old favourite Christmas classics to get everyone into the Christmas spirit.  The atmosphere in the build-up to the lights being turned on is always special and I’d urge people to wrap up warm, arrive early and enjoy a brilliant line-up of entertainment.”
