An exhibition celebrating a snapshot of Scottish art opens at Clydebank Museum and Art Gallery in Clydebank Town Hall, Saturday, 21 September.

On display are works from West Dunbartonshire Council’s fine art collection and the Argyll Collection from Argyll & Bute Council.

Visitors will see works by renowned Scottish artists Elizabeth Blackadder, Joan Eardley, Bel Cowie, David Martin, Philip Reeves and William Birnie.

The works on show were originally purchased between 1960 and 1990 as part of a national initiative in Scotland to create an artistic and educational resource.

Both collections now represent a time capsule of Scottish modern art, contributing to the ongoing commentary on this particular period in Scotland’s artistic past.

Bailie Denis Agnew, Convener of Cultural Services, said: “This exhibition will display a number of the outstanding pieces of 20thCentury art in our collection.  “I would like to thank Argyll and Bute Council for their part in bringing this exhibition to West Dunbartonshire and I would encourage the public to come along and view this important exhibition.”
