Rights Respecting Schools Award

Three secondary schools, 9 primary schools and 6 early years centres in West Dunbartonshire are registered with UNICEF to become Rights Respecting Schools.

The RRSA standards relate to each of 4 aspects of school life:

  • Leadership and Management for embedding the values of the UNCRC in the life of the school

  • Knowledge and understanding of the UNCRC

  • Rights Respecting Classrooms models of behaviour and language

  • Pupil participation when pupils actively participate in decision-making throughout the school

Within the RRSA there are 2 levels:

  • Level 1 recognises that a school has made good progress towards all four aspects so that the values and principles are at least partially embedded in the life of the school

  • Level 2 acknowledges that these principles are fully embedded and have become part of the way the school operates
