2.1 Learners' Experiences
Outdoor Learning
We have achieved 2 hours of P.E. by introducing outdoor P.E. sessions across the stages; with alternating indoor and outdoor lessons. This also meets older pupils' needs needs for privacy in a school with no facilities for changing. Boys change in one class bay and girls in another. Outdoor learning opportunities are also increasingly being planned with the curriculum, particularly in infants.
Active and Co-operative Learning
Active learning methodology is used across the curriculum in P1 and P2 and increasingly across the curriculum in P3. Good practice from Early Years has informed our organisation and we have introduced a soft start for P1 & P2 and self registration for P1 - P3. In the upper school co-operative learning methodology is being used in language and in topic work which together with the implementation of Hearsay has encouraged critical thinking and discussion skills.
International Education
We are taking part in a Comenius Partnership with schools in Poland, Portugal, Turkey and Italy. The title of the project is Living our Legends whereby we study a legend from one of the partner countries. We are also learning about social, cultural and economic conditions in one anothers' countries. We have also piloted an international citizenship programme which has been developed with a partner school in Trinidad. Evaluations from teachers, parents and pupils have been very positive. The school has been accepted for the top award for International Schools by the British Council and a submission portfolio is being compiled.
