Curriculum for Excellence places assessment and achievement as important parts of learning and teaching.
Assessment is the monitoring and tracking of pupils’ learning progress and will be undertaken by teachers throughout the new curriculum.
This will include a wide range of activities to provide young people with the opportunity to achieve valuable skills for learning, life and work. It is very important to recognise these achievements and to make sure that young people are aware of the skills they gain.
Information is given here to help parents to understand assessment in the new curriculum and to help pupils prepare for assessment and examinations.

The new qualifications will be assessed through Unit and Course assessment which is designed to allow more scope for teacher professionalism and learner choice.
