Schools

We aim to create a safe and happy environment which allows all pupils to achieve their full potential. This is achieved through the broad and balanced Curriculum for Excellence.

The curriculum takes account of the needs and abilities of each individual pupil, allowing them to develop at their own rate intellectually, physically, socially and emotionally.

Our Schools

There are 34 primary schools in West Dunbartonshire, attended by about 9,000 pupils.

West Dunbartonshire's 5 secondary schools provide education to nearly 6,000 young people. At secondary school pupils can choose from a wide range of subjects and extra-curricular activities which may help in their later education and career.

Specialist education is provided at our special schools who are committed to providing education for all. This includes providing a high quality of education to all young people with special educational needs whether through physical, sensory, behavioural, communication or learning difficulties.

Where possible, children attend their local primary or secondary school with any specialist help and support supplied. However, children whose needs cannot be met in their local school are placed in an appropriate school, which in a few cases may be outside West Dunbartonshire.
