Pupils attending schools within West Dunbartonshire Council are required to wear a school uniform. Our contact with parents in recent years has also made us aware that the vast majority are in favour of uniform. The wearing of school is a simple yet highly effective means of
-
improving school security by making it easier to identify intruders;
-
encouraging a sense of identity and belonging to the school;
-
tackling inequality by removing the pressure on pupils to wear designed labels;
-
supporting parents by reducing the cost of schoolwear;
-
promoting school discipline and a work ethic amongst pupils.
The school uniform of Our Lady & St Patrick’s High School is as follows:
Boys:
white shirt, school tie, navy blue jumper or school sweatshirt, dark trousers (not jeans or baggy trousers), dark shoes (not trainers).
Girls:
white shirt, school tie, navy blue jumper or school sweatshirt, navy blue skirt or dark trousers (not jeans), dark shoes (not trainers).
All pupils are required to remove outer jackets in class.
Specific advice is given to students on the items to be worn in Physical Education classes and when using the school’s swimming pool.
In seeking the support of parents for school uniform, it is worthwhile highlighting that some forms of dress are unacceptable in school, such as items of clothing which
-
potentially, encourage faction (such as football colours);
-
could cause health and safety difficulties, such as loose fitting clothing, excessive jewellery;
-
carry blatant advertising;
-
carry slogans etc which may be offensive.
