Eco School

Caring for the environment is close to the heart of the OHR community and is covered as part of the curriculum through environmental studies and personal and social development. Recycling is encouraged throughout the school with recycling bins in classrooms and communal areas.

At present OHR has the silver eco award from Eco Schools Scotland and is hoping to achieve a green flag award during the next school session.

Members' Comments

"I really enjoy being part of the school Eco Committee because you feel as if you are doing something food for the environment.  It's not boring as some people might think, its really interesting and I'm sure the other members of the Committee would agree with me.  One of the interesting activities we have on at the moment is an energy saving project for the whole school.  By turning off lights and computers when they are not needed, the children can win green rewards for their class."

"At our meetings the Eco Committee comes together and meet with Miss Burke and Mr Knowles. During this time we talk about different things that we want to do to make our school greener. We always have an agenda, so that we know what to talk about. Someone always takes the minutes so that we don't forget any good ideas."

We are still recycling mobile phones and there is a Drop-Off Point situated at the
School Office.
