At OHR we are very aware that the health of our pupils, their families and the community they live in must be a high priority. As a health promoting school we consider all aspects of health. Physical, emotional and mental health are important but the environment children live in and experience is also important.
Within school children are encouraged to eat fruit, drink milk and enjoy the healthy lunches provided in the dining hall as part of the Hungry for Success campaign. Hand washing is encouraged with all children washing their hands before lunch. In order to maintain healthy teeth, tooth brushing will be piloted in primary 1 & 2 from April onwards.
Relationships education is fully discussed with parents prior to the programme starting. The school curriculum meets all the requirements of the 5-14 guidelines and in line with these, parents of primary 7 pupils have the right to withdraw their child from the programme if they wish to.
In May 2006 Our Holy Redeemer primary school achieved
Health Promoting School status at level 3.
